When it comes to a greater understanding of the golden age of the euro-disco movement of the 1970s through the 80s, there are few dance music collectives on the scene today that are more knowledgeable on the subject than the Crescent Street Hustlers. On their excellent debut album, "The Disco Sound of Montreal" - their first for the newly revived Afro Wax imprint, they paid tribute to the Montreal disco scene of the late 1970s, focusing on the original artists that made the Montreal scene pop. On their latest endeavor, "The Disco Sound Of Europe," the map is drawn wider as they use the same formula to bring the Euro-disco phenomena of the 1970s and 80s into greater focus by taking some of their favorite hits of the era and remaking them in their own image. All songs chosen were among the most iconic of the era: such as the French euro disco group, Bimbo Jet's 1974 smash "El Bimbo," the Belgian Latin disco group Two Man Sound's 1981 euro-disco hit "Capital Tropical," "Chinese Kung Fu" from the French disco mavens Banzai, the 1976 hit "Isabelle And The Rain" from the famed French musician and orchestrator Jo Boyer, "Love & Devotion" - the 1986 Hi NRG hit from the disco act Michael Bow from the stable of Belgian production wiz Fonny de Wulf, the early synth pop of Rofo (Ronnie Verrept & Fonny de Wulf) from 1982, the Caribbean flavor of Chocolat's "The Kings of Clubs" from 1976, and the disco/synthpop of Stop and their 1985 international smash, "Wake Up." Much love and attention were paid to each track, which reflects the adventurous spirit and deep devotion that the Crescent Street Hustlers brought to this ambitious project - which relies on the past to build a more perfect future of dance music.
